Modena Cento Ore 2016, 2017 and 2018: three years of Excellence

A three-year period that saw extraordinary cars climb to the top of the rankings—true masterpieces of automotive history.

June 10, 2025: It’s a misconception to believe that in the class dedicated to models built up to 1966, victory always belonged to the Jaguar E-Type. A closer examination of the leaderboards from 2016 to 2018 reveals a rotation of exceptional vehicles, engaging in fierce competition.

While the Jaguars indeed played a prominent role, they faced formidable opponents: powerful Porsche 911s, robust AC Shelby Cobras, and even the stunning Daytona Coupe variant of the Cobra. This intense rivalry made every victory a significant achievement.

Equally thrilling was the post-1966 class, characterized by three years of intense competition. In 2016, Porsche dominated with the Carrera 3.0 RS, which, despite a tough battle, managed to outpace two high-performing 911 Carrera RSRs. The following year, 2017, brought a shift in the rankings as two Ferrari 308 GTB4 Michelottos emerged as the clear front-runners, leaving little room for the Ferrari 365 GTB4 Competizione.

In 2018, Porsche returned to the forefront with the 911 SC, triumphing over a magnificent Lancia Stratos, while the Ford Escort RS finished further behind.

The 1950s Sports Car Class, filled with unique charm, showcased epic duels—most notably between two Maserati 250S cars, masterpieces of the Trident brand, and the legendary Jaguar C-Type, a Le Mans winner.

The introduction of an age-adjusted classification, based on the cars’ year of manufacture, brought several surprises. Historically and technically significant models such as the BMW 328 Roadster, the Austin Healey 100/4, and the Ferrari 212 Export managed to secure the top spot on the podium in at least one of the editions between 2016 and 2018.

Even in the Regularity category, excitement abounded. Porsche, entering less aggressive models like the 914 and 356 B, as well as a cautiously-driven Shelby Cobra, had to contend with true collector icons such as the sharp Ferrari Dino and the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO—an emblem of its era and the eternal dream of every enthusiast.
